(Carlsen,M (2775) - Bacrot,E (2691) [D43] 41st Festival GM Biel SUI (3), 22.07.2008 1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 e6 5.Bg5 Nbd7 Other alternatives are 5.h6 and dc4 6.cxd5 Transposing to exchange variation of Queens Gambit ! 6...exd5 7.e3 Be7 8.Qc2 Nh5 9.Bxe7 Qxe7 10.0–0–0carlsen.jpg (See diagram)Nb6 11.h3 Be6 12.Bd3 0–0–0 13.Kb1 Kb8 14.Nd2 g6 [Previously 14...Nf6 was played 15.Nb3 Ne8 16.Nc5 Nd6 17.Ka1 Qf6 18.f3 Rhe8 19.Rhe1 h5 20.Qf2 Bf5 21.Bf1 h4 22.Re2 Bg6 23.Ree1 Re7 24.Nd3 Bxd3 25.Bxd3 Rde8 26.Qg1 Nf5 27.Bxf5 Qxf5 28.e4 Qf4 29.Ne2 Qh6 30.Nc3 Qf4 ½–½ Zhou Jianchao (2522)-Kim,A (2428)/Yerevan 2006/CBM 114 ext] 15.Nb3 Ng7 16.f3 Bf5 17.Bxf5 Nxf5 18.Rhe1 Nc4 19.Qc1 Black has equalized! 19...Qg5 20.g4 Ng7 [20...Nh4 is another alternative and needs to be probed.] 21.f4 Qh4 22.e4 Complicating the issues with no return! White's hopes lie on the d5 pawn and attack on the King. Combinations are always in the air as knight on g7 and qh4/h3(after the pawn capture) look bit awkward 22...Qxh3 23.exd5 cxd5 24.Nc5 [24.Nxd5 Qxg4 25.Qxc4 Qf5+] 24...Ne6 25.b3 Nxc5?! [25...Nd6 looks like the right move. This will retain some diffenders for the Black's King.] 26.dxc5 Na5 27.b4 Nc4 [27...Nc6 28.b5 d4 29.Na4 with complications!] 28.Nxd5 Na3+ 29.Ka1 Rhe8? But this is a mistake. Black should play 30.c6 bxc6 31.Qxc6 And now the game is over! White is able to create tomany threats from nowhere! Blacks rook on e8 is attacked first and if it moves to f8 defending the rook on d8 then Rook e7 decides the game. Hence, Black resigned 1–0
